Slogan #45

Take on the three Principle Causes

Reflection

Reflecting on Slogan #45: "Take on the three principal causes," I think about my journey to becoming a yoga teacher. This slogan, through Judy Lief's teachings, highlights the importance of the right teacher, the right teachings, and the right practice—principles that have deeply shaped my path.

Years ago, I started practicing yoga in search of a deeper connection and peace. Amazing teachers inspired and challenged me, becoming the first principal cause in my journey. The teachings, rich with wisdom, provided a framework for understanding yoga's physical, mental, and spiritual aspects, becoming the second principal cause. Daily practice has transformed my understanding and deepened my connection to yoga. A practice that has continued to look different every day. It isn’t always easy, but you roll open the mat and begin. The practice itself has become the third principal cause, offering strength and clarity.

In 2015, I took my first 200-hour training at Kula Yoga Studio, located above Future's Bakery in the Annex, Toronto. This inclusive space was new for me—a place where teachers and fellow students practiced together in the heat, sweating side by side, breathing deeply, and moving through asana poses with each inhale and exhale. The sense of community and support at Kula was profound. I remember the camaraderie, the shared breath, and the collective focus. This experience solidified my commitment to yoga and prepared me to share its transformative power with others.

Becoming a yoga teacher has felt like a natural progression, allowing me to inspire and guide my students as I had been inspired. Yet, I remain a student, always learning and growing with each breath and each pose
