Slogan #43

Observe these two, even at the risk of your life.

Reflection:

I recommit to holding the refuge vow and the bodhisattva vow in my heart.

The refuge vow means honouring the Buddha, studying Buddhism, and connecting with my community. The bodhisattva vow is about dedicating my life to helping all beings with wisdom and compassion.

Since being introduced to this practice by Pat Harada, I revisit these vows yearly. Each reflection offers a new perspective, helping me see my growth and recognize areas needing improvement. This isn’t just a ritual but an ongoing commitment to living with intention. It’s about acknowledging shortcomings and striving for alignment with these vows, embodying compassion and wisdom in my life.

In my yoga practice, these vows find expression. Yoga teaches me presence, patience, and compassion—values that mirror the refuge and bodhisattva vows. Each pose reflects my commitment, reminding me to carry these principles off the mat and into my daily life. Through yoga, I integrate the vows into my being, balancing spiritual practice and physical wellbeing. This holistic approach keeps me grounded, reinforcing my dedication to living with compassion and intention in every moment.
