Slogan #42
Whichever of the Two Occurs, Be Patient
Reflection:
Today, I took a stroll through the Beaches, a place that's been so pivotal to my inner growth. As I wandered through these familiar yet ever-evolving streets, I pondered Slogan #42: "Whichever of the two occurs, be patient." Witnessing the changes here over the past 20 years has truly underscored the need for patience. Eventually, I found a peaceful spot by Lake Ontario to meditate. The wind gusted gently, waves crashed against the rocks, and geese floated serenely on the water. As I tuned into these natural sounds, I recalled Pat's guiding question: "How can I be of service to compassion in this moment?"
The gentrification of the Beaches mirrors the changes in my own life. Each visit reveals new buildings, fresh faces, and a mix of emotions—joy, sadness, nostalgia. Patience teaches me to embrace these shifts with an open heart, honouring the past while being present in the now.
Sitting by the lake, I focused on being present and patient with my feelings. The rhythm of the waves and the wind reminded me to let go of any urgency to figure out my future and to appreciate the present moment. Practising patience here felt like a true act of self-compassion, a way to honour myself and this place that has shaped me.
