Change your attitude, but remain natural

Reflection:

Changing our attitude in the face of adversity is a challenging endeavour, especially when we feel under attack. The instinct to react impulsively without pausing is deeply ingrained, and sometimes, I find it incredibly hard to resist. In those heated moments, my feelings seem paramount, demanding immediate expression. But deep down, I know this isn’t the truth. While my intellect understands this, my body often rebels, pushing me toward reaction without considering the impact on the other person involved.

So here I am, meditating, journaling, and exploring various ways to train my mind and body to extend the space between stimulus and response. This journey also involves cultivating self-compassion as I repeatedly stumble, making the same mistakes. Yet, there are those precious moments of progress where I manage to pause before reacting, only to sometimes slip back into old habits.

Engaging in mindfulness practices like meditation, yoga, breathwork, and even cold exposure baths provides invaluable opportunities to observe and manage our thoughts before we act. These practices are not just exercises but pathways to a more mindful and compassionate way of being.
