Slogan #11
As the world fills up with evil, go ahead and find peace
Transformation of Bad Circumstances into the Way of Enlightenment
Reflection:
Today, I found myself in the midst of a challenging Annual General Meeting. It was my first time participating as a board member, listening intently and casting my votes. The relentless stream of documents to review was overwhelming, draining my energy and leaving my body feeling heavy and depleted. Slogan #11 encourages finding peace amidst chaos, noise, and the everyday hustle. While I’m aware that my discomfort in a meeting pales in comparison to the many evils in the world, it still presents a valid opportunity to practice this slogan and acknowledge my personal struggles.
Often, I feel undeserving of peace when the world seems to be falling apart. Who am I to complain when I live in one of the best countries in the world, with a roof over my head, money in the bank, and the freedom to pursue my passions? Yet, even in this space of privilege, it’s crucial to practice self-compassion.
So, I return to the basics of my practice: following the breath on the inhale and exhale, noticing the thoughts, sensations, and stories that arise. Eventually, a moment of peace, a moment of reprieve, arrives. In these moments of stillness, I remind myself that peace is not a luxury reserved for those who have earned it through suffering. It is a fundamental human need, a sanctuary we all deserve, regardless of our circumstances. The practice of finding peace is an act of self-love, a necessary step toward sustaining our well-being in a world that often feels overwhelming.
By cultivating this inner peace, I am better equipped to face external challenges with clarity and resilience. It’s in these quiet moments that I find the strength to navigate the complexities of life, to act with compassion, and to contribute positively to the world around me.
Mindfulness teaches us that peace is always available, even in the most turbulent times. It’s a gentle reminder that we can hold space for our struggles and still find moments of calm and clarity. This practice of returning to the breath, of grounding ourselves in the present, is a powerful tool for transformation. As I sit with these reflections, I am reminded that the journey to peace is ongoing. It requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to embrace our imperfections. But in this practice, I find a profound sense of connection—to myself, to others, and to the world. This is where true enlightenment begins.
